O cantor B. J. Thomas, que fez grande sucesso nos anos 70 com músicas como “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” e “Rock and Roll Lullaby”, morreu na noite desse sábado (29), aos 78 anos, após complicações decorrentes de um câncer de pulmão.

Vencedor de cinco prêmios Grammy, o cantor subiu nas paradas musicais no final dos anos 1960 e 70, e ficou eternizado com canções como "Raindrops Keep Fallin 'on My Head" e 'Hooked On A Feeling', que voltou a fazer sucesso no filme "Guardiões da Galáxia".

No Brasil, Thomas estourou com a música "Rock and Roll Lullaby", que fazia parte da trilha sonora da novela "Selva de Pedra", da TV Globo, de 1972. A música retornou às paradas brasileiras em 1986, quando a novela foi regravada.

B.J. Thomas vendeu mais de 70 milhões de discos e misturou country, soul, gospel e soft rock, cantando canções calorosas e ocasionalmente melancólicas.

O cantor anunciou em março que havia sido diagnosticado com câncer de pulmão em estágio 4 e estava recebendo tratamento. Descanse em Paz, B. J. Thomas.
